The Jewish - Christian Relations Scholarship was set up in 1999 by the Centre for the study of Jewish-Christian Relations with the support of the British Council and the Ian Karten Charitable Trust.
General description of the programme
The scholarship is for full time studies at Master’s level. To achieve the MA, students complete 4 taught modules plus a dissertation of 15000 words.
The MA degree in Jewish-Christian Relations (validated by Anglia Polytechnic University) is a multi-disciplinary programme, operating within the areas of religious studies, theology, history, cultural and social studies. The degree can be taken in preparation for advanced research in humanities, for teaching or community work. Taught at the Centre for the study of Jewish-Christian Relations (in Cambridge) the MA is supported by excellent resources and a range of extra-curricular activities. Criteria
* Candidates must demonstrate that they could reasonably be expected to work at a level appropriate to a Master’s degree. * Candidates should give evidence of prior learning in either of the following fields - theology, religious studies, Jewish studies, history, cultural studies or other humanities. Candidates with other suitable educational, professional or interest backgrounds will be considered as well. * Candidates may meet these criteria by certificated learning (e.g. a degree) or by evidence of relevant experience or sustained interest in the field. * Applications are welcome from qualified candidates regardless of age, disability, ethnicity, gender, or religious or political affiliation. * Applicants should be keen to contribute to creating in Poland and the European Union a network supporting cultural, religious and ethnic tolerance and understanding between Jews and Christians. * Candidates should be determined to make practical use of the acquired knowledge, for example by publishing relevant scholarly and popular articles, and/or carrying out further educational and information activities upon return to Poland. They have to contribute in an active way to the further development and enhancement of civil society in Poland. * English language level: required IELTS score 6.5 or CAE. Financial conditions
The scholarship covers the cost of:
* full time tuition, * international travel to and from Cambridge, * health insurance, * maintenance (‘pocket money’) of £200 per month for the duration of one academic year, * and accommodation at the Centre for the study of Jewish-Christian Relations in the centre of Cambridge.
Application and selection procedure
* Please read carefully the Guidance Notes and prepare your application accordingly. * Please submit required number of copies of your application form with all accompanying material to the British Council by 15 February 2005. * Candidates may be asked to submit written work in support of their application. * Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an interview at The British Council in Warsaw in March 2005. * All candidates will be notified on the outcome of the selection procedure by end of April 2005. * The interviews will be held at the British Council Office in Warsaw in March 2005 (exact date to be confirmed).
